I'm 40 and have no kids and never plan on it. I'm a teacher so I tell my students that I rent, not own so I get plenty of exposure to kids but I never have to deal with the big issues. Our dog gets treated better than most children. I've just never had a desire to raise a child. There is no hole to fill there. I've seen too many people never question if they should have kids just when and how many. The world will do just fine without more of genes going into the pool.

I don't disagree with that.
My wife and I have successfully replaced ourselves and we're stopping there. No need to stretch the earth's resources to breaking point, either.
Another factor most don't consider.
Louder, what grade/age kids do you teach? You're a high school teacher, right? (sorry man, I can't remember if I've asked you already)
Edit: Also, forgot to ask if your view on having kids effects who you hang out with?

Kids are cool. I live with friends that have a kid.

I'm in terminator 2. We're attempting a hiatus.

And Vonnegut.

So much this. I learned to be selective in what stories I would tell the new guys. even in the infantry where being more nuts than the next guy is almost a status symbol. Fucking snowflakes man.

Because I'm several people's boss I have to sometimes be weary of what I say. It's generally frowned upon when I say that I want to choke the basement dweller with his pony tail (I'm being harsh, I actually like the guy but I WILL KILL ANYBODY..... I mean).

Yesterday one of the new guys returned to work after two weeks of training. He had shaved his beard into the Lemmy. I didn't welcome him back to work at all. I took one look at him and said, "Your beard looks fucking awesome." Generally frowned upon? Perhaps. But everybody got a kick out of it.

It's all about that "know your audience" shit, ya know. I know who/when/where I can say it at, it's just a matter of doing it appropriately. :P

If somebody needed some dank nuts I wouldn't sell to them but that's because I don't smoke. I could probably point them in the right direction though,

The logistics of children aside, because they are a pain in the arse, I don't even talk war stories with other parents who I'm friends with. So I'm not laming anyone out in that regard. My workmates doesn't really do that either. To be perfectly honest I get shitty with other parents who are always harping on about their kids.
I think your spot on when it comes to friends without kids not understanding that there is almost zero spontaneity in life now.i also don't think they get how precious that time you've organized to chill without kids can be, too. As it takes acts of organizational genius to make that shit happen sometimes. My work mate and I were pretty shitty that the other dudes didn't take that into account. But again, you have all the time in the world when youre in your twenties I guess...

Yeah - I developed a pretty obnoxious war story habit at first since a few of my buddies have kids several months older than mine. I love my kid, but those first few months were really fucking hard for me, especially on nights when my wife would work. I came to realize that being a good dad means keeping my mouth shut about most of the little/constant hardships and responding with 'great' or showing some pics when people asked how the little one was doing. Nobody wanted to hear about me, or the difficulty I was having. If they asked about my kid they wanted to hear something cute and see a picture and for me to shut the fuck up and walk away immediately after that, which is the right thing to do in that situation

I have always loved kids, but was probably the same way when I was in my twenties. It never really occurred to me that people couldn't/didn't want to have someone watch their kid so they can come out and get wasted, only to wake up several hours later to a potentially screaming child

It's just part of it - the experience defines the difference. That's why empathy and sympathy mean different things ;)

YES.

That's highly accurate.

If you don't kind of hate who you were in your early twenties, you probably did it wrong.

It's a drum thing.

Got hit up by some of the ex-members of Ol' Scratch and their drummer just left to focus on other projects so they hit me up asking me if I was interested. And I've been a big fan of the current band they have going on so I was like uh duh of course. So now I gotta sell my bass rig to finance a decent drumset.... which is not cheap by any means.....

But I found this tasty little treat I got to try out yesterday and will hopefully be picking up this weekend:

Image

Tama Starclassic Performer B/B (Birch / Bubinga) with a 24x18 kick, 12x7 rack tom and 16x14 floor tom plus a 13x7 maple snare.

The kick drum is a fucking beast, and the toms sound bigger than they actually are. :yay:

Here's a sample of their music:

Awesome on the sleep track, I dug it quite a bit myself.
