A guy hit me up already from the ad, asking if I'd be down to do a Man Is The Bastard inspired dual bass band. I don't know how serious he is or if he has a drummer, but I like that style and wouldn't mind beefing it up a bit to a slightly heavier style, so I responded.

You should definitely do that and let us all hear it because Man Is The Bastard is rad.

Unrelated, what do you guys stack for dirt? I'm currently running a supercollider, an FZ2, and sometimes an HM2, but they're all too muddy when playing fast. I have an HBE Hematota and an OCD that I've been considering tossing back on the board, but playing bass in drop f means that some pedals just won't work right. Suggestions?

More helpfully, I put a singing tree in front of my Supercollider, which sits behind the PDF-1. Deep, clear, bass for days.

So a treble booster is apparently an underrated/talked about pedal for doom?? Also, I'm not sure I can sit still long enough to play a whole set of doom without fast parts

i don't know about underrated (Iommi used a Rangemaster, after all. ) but as far as bass goes, from what I've personally played and heard over many hours and many decibels of Sab worship, most of us typically don't need to compete with the guitars for the whole 'cavernous low end,' thing.

Which isn't to say that I don't have shit tons of bass in my go-to doom signal, but that your goal, like in all music, is meant to complement the other instruments, which usually means lowtuned, rumbly guitars, which usually means having a bit of the typical bass guitar's high end in there, too. Treble boost-y things help with that, although they're not always necessary, depending on your setup.

I don't like stacking that much for bass, I prefer going parallel or dual rig to blend sounds. If I do stack though, I usually but an overdrive or boost set with a lot of high end first, then fuzz(ier) stuff after. Then it gets some better cut. Going fuzz into overdrive or distortion makes everything sound flabby and soggy to me.

Confirming the existence of long service leave.
I'm up for mine soon (it pays in earlierin my sector, but for nowhere near as long).
Most places won't give you six months, unless you work for a government department, but it is a welcome chunk of time off.
It's becoming more of a moot point as the job market changes as most people won't stay at a company long enough to earn.
On the flip side, a lot places make the work environment and conditions not conducive to long term employment.
Industry depending, though.

after one very painful month of employment at my new job i just quit. what a relief. i got something else lined up, so hopefully it'll all be okay. it was presented to me as this awesome new job with a bunch of money and interesting shit to do, but it turned out to be absolute bullshit. i never did the job they hired me for at all, just really shitty low paid super high stress carpentry work with some crazy guy breathing down my neck all day every day.
