Ahh damn, I think it was the combination of not using a live drummer and an insane level of talent that made them work. I can't really imagine someone else filling that niche.
Yeah I still occasionally listen to Board up the House, it's one of my favorites.
Slight change of subject and I'm sure this was addressed but what are everyone's thoughts on this?

I concur for the most part... There's alot of black metal bands that use very different guitar tones IMO. Your spot on about DEP though. And I think if I delved more into the Djent music I could pick different bands apart, but it would mainly be due to the playing style as like you said they follow a formula for their tone Maxon OD808 > (variety of different FMV tone stack high gain heads all with the gain low) > post preamp EQ > SS power amp.
Meshuggah aren't Djent because they were what they are before that was invented, it was invented to describe the sound they created and the genre that follows it.

Maybe it'll grow on me but I'm not a fan of those vocals at all or how they are mixed.
I love some board up the house. I was really excited to see what they'd do next but then they called it quits/long hiatus. Too bad. It was a really good album.
Last night at practice we tried out a new bassist since ours moved 3 hours away to start a new job. Dude has a 5 string and knows all kinds of theory. Closest I can compare him to is Joe Lester from Intronaut if he had frets. This is gonna be interesting. Also, I found out last night that my Quantum Mystic can dial in the exact tone that I have my Rat set for high gain if I want.
