Personal favorite is Logic X. Garageband may be fine for basic needs.
Good deals: OsbornKT, Phantasmagorovich, UglyCasanova, DarkAxel, Skip, D.o.S, ColdBrightSunlight, Eivind August, Goroth

Gonna bump this.
Summit if you need weirdo Mac help shoot me PMs.
I'm also a big proponent of Logic Pro X but depending on that machine running it might struggle.
I just upgraded to Yosemite because I bought a new iMac. Dark mode is my new jam. Anyhow. Gotta look into new Audio Interfaces now that my old as shit M-Audio stuff (FireWire Solo) isn't supported any longer.

If you actually have a stable Pro Tools rig you need to never update your OS again. Avid is the devil that way.
Anyways, Logic Pro X all the way holy shit.

I've got Mavericks on my machine-2013 Mac Mini. I use Digital Performer and Logic. DP has always run pretty solid for me.

Also guys. Don't fucking update to Yosemite yet.
I can't stress this enough.
GardenoftheDead was absolutely right about the Pro Tools/Avid shit but the same is true of a lot of software. In summit's case Reaper was hosed and will likely still be fubar in Yosemite until it's updated.
That being said, if you switch to Yosemite you can use the sexy Dark Mode.

Yeah, I'm in no rush to update. Really I think it's a big gamble to go to a new OS. If the current one you have is working well, why mess with it...?

Re: Mavericks and your DAW
I yosemited on the first day and honestly have had a great experience so far. Outside of the stock apps, I only use freeware stuff like BTSync, VLC, XLD, GIMP, InkScape, Komodo, OpenOffice... or apple pro apps (logic and fc X). All the makers of my various peripherals had already made things compatible or had released an update. Everything is working smoothly, it's pretty, needs a tiny bit more ram (I'd say half a g on my mid 2012 mbp) though because of all the transparency thingys but a couple new features are well woth it. Off the top of my mind: airdrop files from and to your Mac, iPhone and IPad; midi over Bluetooth, really great stuff especially if like me you use your iPad a lot for music making; new Safari is really pretty and pleasant to use; Notification Center today's view is something I missed - it's the first thing I check on my phone when I wake up. A step up from Mavericks for sure, and I really liked Mavericks. To me it was the best OSx since Leopard.
The beta has been out for almost a year and was widely available - you don't even have to be a developer to test it out, so I cannot understand how a serious developer would be behind on this.

Re: Mavericks and your DAW
I think the big hesitation for a lot of people is getting/waiting for confirmation that their DAW plug-ins and effects are trouble free in the new OS.

Yeah. I'm really enjoying Yosemite right now. Cannot stress enough how much I enjoy the updated version of Spotlight.
Safari has taken a little getting used to but I am enjoying the minimal look.
