Still waiting on new guitar build: 27"-scale reso-lectric from Kochel Guitars in MT. P90 in the neck and a piezo on the bridge. Roots-doom imminent. Guess I better learn to play slide.

Old slide roots and blues is doom as fuck. I bet a slide guitar with a massive wall of amps would be amazing.

My personal gateway into that world was the late John Campbell, whose last album Howlin' Mercy had some fucking amazing slide tones from an amplified National. If I could make a slide guitar do that with a heavy Marshall crunch....

drums are cool...i loved playing them, but they take up so much space and are rediculously loud. Back when I bought my drum kit, the electronic ones were really shit and expensive, so never looked into them.

i'm hoping to get a electronic kit in the near future...and do what you want to do Conky...i hate trying to make drum tracks with a keyboard and mouse...there is no feel to it what-so-ever. For me especially, as when i did play drums, i wasnt a beat master, i use to play the guitar riffs on drums.

Acoustic kits are ridiculously loud, especially with big dimensions and a hard hitting drummer behind them....

Its funny I grew up playing in two piece bands without a bassist, so I learned how to basically play guitar riffs on drums or atleast how to match their picking patterns and what not.

I have an Alesis electric kit that I just packed up and moved out of the way for my Tama set. It was a pain in the ass recording with them because I couldn't mix track levels. My setup wasn't ideal though. Plus I am used to beating the fuck out of a kit and my electric kit just couldn't handle it. The rack tom kept flopping over after about 5 or 6 hits on it.

I have a Roland TD-3 electronic kit with an extra cymbal and love it, it doesn't sound "real" but with some inventive sound engineering I've confused more than one person. I really enjoy it for practicing at home, as I can play at any time of night with headphones and even put a backing track in there to jam along with.

That is beautiful Nick. Your service loop wiring style is the closest thing to 'mil-spec' I have seen on the internet.

It was my dad who suggested I start using service loops wherever I could so I started moving away from hard right angles to loops and circles for less wire stress and more serviceability. Thanks man

I cant say enough good things about Ryders Ludwigs. Since the shell size/kit change, everything is clearer and louder, just massive sounding and I'm enjoying the results of all his hard work and saving very much

We've talked about the last few shows flux had. Here's the result of 2 audio tracks and some tripod shot video from the Valley show. The camera never moved in the raw footage and it was really bright so I added panning and a bunch of video effects to make it more visually interesting. This set is all our up tempo songs, C.F.A. was headlining so we wanted to have our more "stonercore" set, and set the stage for them so to speak. Nice to have enough material now that we can tailor set's to shows.

I appreciate the sympathy, my dude. I'm not a big fan of Ohio - the wife's extended family lives there, so we have to make the trip every now and again. She's from Cincinnati, which has some really cool shit that is completely lost on the mouth breathers that live there.

That jives with my limited experience there, too. But I know some people who really enjoy it, so.

People who live there love it. Those people are generally really conservative and are afraid of all shades of brown people, though. It's hard to argue with the job and housing situation out there though - you can get some bullshit factory job and live in a 2500+ sqft home with a finished basement.

My boyhood home was two miles from Ohio. But all I really know of that state are bus stations in a few major cities. I hope the rest of Ohio is better than its bus stations. For the sake of everyone.

Well I all ready use Bonham sizes, with my big ass frame behind a smaller kit it just looks comical plus as you said the larger sizes and clearer and louder, just all around better IMO unless your playing death / thrash metal. I'd even use em in a jazz setting, as its all in dynamics. I'll keep your offer in the back of my mind.

And you nailed it. "dynamics" Thats what well tuned bigger kits do for you. A lot of it got buried before. The fact that you can hear the drums at all in the video is directly due to that I think.

It's a fairly shitty one. doing this had me wanting to upgrade. I used avs4u, which I've had forever, and first got to convert audio files. Apparently if you got their one thing, you got access to all their stuff, some of it's been useful, but I would not recommend it for power or ease of use.

Most of the cooler shit was done with transparent overlays.

It was exceedingly cheap. Dunno how much it cost now, but sub $40 got me all kinds of simple and usefull stuff. the format conversion thingy was the big one for me, I don't think that's as much of an issue any more.

I got a set of mesh pads to put on my heads and cymbals and its just as quiet as my electric kit. Only thing is I don't get drum sounds in my headphones.
