HELL YEAH DUDES.
This track is a fuckin' ripper. Really digging on that bass tone for sure. Vocals sound good. Especially when it slows down. Kinda drenched in some verb, really subtle in the mix. Fucking digging it. I liked Book of Beasts but this is definitely cooler. Two-minute mark seems to have Sabbathian vibes with that semi-singing/yelling thing. This is the shit.

I would never poo-poo a band for doing something that they're probably not going to be able to recreated in a live setting. To me, it's really just using the studio as an instrument and not necessarily a crutch. I mean, if everyone was a "purist" and did not geek out in the studio, there'd be no such thing as The White Album, Jimi's backwards leads, or any ridiculous number of great and extremely valid musical explorations.
I'm not shitting on every band that does that but I'm shitting on mine in my circumstance cause it didn't elevate it to a higher level... it cluttered shit up to where some songs were unrecognizable which is also why that album never made it to release.

I mean, you should generally be able to play your songs. Particularly short-ish black metal songs. But shit happens and I want recordings to be as perfect as possible so a punch in here and there isn't a big deal to me. We've been recording a bit recently. If I have a little flub 9 minutes into a 14 minute song, fuck it, I'm punching in if I can and I'm not going to feel bad about it. I play and sing better in real life than I do sitting in a weird room with headphones on by myself anyway, so I don't beat myself up if I don't pull off my best performance in one take in that weird situation. It's all a balance. There's a point where if you can't actually play your songs, you should practice more rather than record and put it out. And there's a point where you're justified in using the studio as a tool. And I like creative uses of the studio, even if it means you have to do something else to achieve that feeling live.
First off, I'm glad you are recording new stuff and I can't wait to hear it. Second, If I were at a legit studio and was paying by the hour, I'd probably be punching in everything to save time / money.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
When I've recorded in a studio I never had to punch in, I was able to get my tracks done in one take and about 90% it was the only take I needed. I had practiced my songs enough that I was completely comfortable running through it in any circumstance.
More so when recording myself, I've had to do more takes and I don't have a problem scratching a take of a 20 min long song where I fucked up 18mins in. Just time to redo it.
It'll always be my preference to never punch in. I even do my vocals in one take. that's just me and was just sharing. It's not like i'm leading an attack on punch ins.

I always feel like the songs are supposed to flow a certain way so I like to take it from the top when I can, even at practice. The other guitarist wanted to punch in for every single change on the song and he was playing all rhythms! I guess it's just two different takes on being a perfectionist.
Some bands I don't ever expect to experience live but I'm perfectly okay with listening to their recording of a song that would take 20 musicians to play it live. And on the other hand there are those bands you don't expect to pull it off live and they blow you away.
one was Circle Takes the Square for me. though they needed to turn up the guitars and bass.

Great jam, great compilation, fuck scalpers.
re: punching. Someone said earlier that it really depends on the band, and I'll agree with that. Some bands are made to be live entities, and some are really supposed to live between your ears.
