live-i-evil wrote:This and the story about the dude coming up to you are just perfect. I can really only dig on Sky Valley these days, but can we at least say that Desert Sessions are tits and Queens got some sweet shit?

Would you believe that I have never listened to Desert Sessions? I may have heard them in passing but that'd be it. Queens rules. Even when it's a song I don't like, they still rule. They have transcended my desire to be impressed with every moment of everything. I have also not heard a lick of that recent record. I should really get out more...

conky wrote:I just got my hours cut at work and am taking a $650 a month pay cut.

Holy fuck Conky! It's a harsh realm where even EMT's get treated like part timers.

LOCOPELAND wrote:Fucksake, I've missed nearly 100 pages here. SUP?!

100 pages? What is that, like four days?

t-rey wrote:Relatively sad news: My mancave died today. It died a clean an honorable death. And alas, as it was foretold, it would rise from the dead to be reborn in the guest room as the man corner. I have no idea why my wife painted this room orange, but after spending a bit of time in here getting my rig and computer set up, I kinda dig it.

I am not trying to be a jerk here but this tale makes me feel very glad to be single and completely self centered.

Jäke wrote:Insofar as being able to recreate stuff live, that's a whole other philosophical divide in which both sides have totally valid perspectives. I think that it all depends on one's own personal vision for a song, album, or even a band.

I would never poo-poo a band for doing something that they're probably not going to be able to recreated in a live setting. To me, it's really just using the studio as an instrument and not necessarily a crutch. I mean, if everyone was a "purist" and did not geek out in the studio, there'd be no such thing as The White Album, Jimi's backwards leads, or any ridiculous number of great and extremely valid musical explorations.

This is real talk.

Iommic Pope wrote: Finally got my ape blaster back. So strange to hear that thing through a darker/warmer sounding amp. Still rad, though. Brings the thickness.

It was strange switching from the Bassman 135 to the SLO with that thing. The SLO clean channel is just a plexi so it's darker/warmer than the 135 by quite a bit. I'm glad your AOR is cranking finally!

would love some feedback.

Five minutes ago was the first time I heard your band. SHIT IS GOOD SON. Please keep at it. Is All Too Human available on wax?

christianatl wrote:I know some of you dudes have heard this already, but for those of you that haven't here's our tack for Amphetamine Reptile's Dope, Guns & Fucking in the Streets 13.

I like! I wish Great Falls could be one of the openers when you guys come here. They'd be such a great fit. One of the bands on the bill I really like and one I don't so much. I won't say which is which though! Also Christian, under normal circumstances I'd have offered you and your boys a place to stay weeks ago already. But at the moment my oldest dog is just frail and sick and she can't hold her pee very good anymore. In an effort to ease the final leg of her journey I'm just not having any house guests until she's all done. I'm sure you're experiencing no shortage of offers in regards to lodging, but still...

samzadgan wrote:for the first time in about a month i was able to play guitar through my main amp and effects...was a lot of fun...and fuck me, i'd forgotten how good it sounded!

NEVAR FORGET

samzadgan wrote:anyone seen these pedals?

I hadn't but now that I have I feel like I want to rant. Bad hardware placement. I don't see why so many guys feel a need to put parts that can be damaged by stress right next to the only fucking part of the pedal that gets stressed. Say dude is heavy (I am talking actual weight here people), has only one pedal and all he has to hook it up with are cables with straight plugs. One wrong step and shit is getting busted. Same with these dudes that position pots so that the knob is one inch from the footswitch. You're just asking for returns. I mean are these stompboxes or gingerly press the button with your pinky toe boxes? Am I the asshole? What gives?

That's the 'Celestial' amp, IIRC. Killer deal for an american made 100 watt head.

Hard to believe he's having trouble selling it. That's a sweet amp!

He is really the best. He visited the other day. He brought in a red Jaguar and played a bunch of stuff I've been working on through my rig and gave lots of feedback. In more ways than one ho ho ho. It was a fine day!

Thanks Sam! It's been fun seeing our record on a few top ten (or whatever number) lists for 2014. That album came out mid 2013! The Pirates Press record of the year thingy was neato too and I wish many thanks to any of you fine lads who may have voted for us :animal:

van_muddlestein wrote:Basically have my Ampeg v2 cranked and want that sound but "more".

If you haven't already you need to get an SHO in the mix. There is just nothing else like it. The perfect 'more' pedal.

Somewhat related: I have been using this simple formula to get interesting results every time. Naga Viper > any dirt pedal or two > SHO. Usually the NV is on full treble and then I adjust dirt and SHO to taste. And it does taste good.

live-i-evil wrote:I second the SHO suggestion. I had one and loved it with my VT-40's. The only problem I found was that I really liked how it sounded as a clean boost as well as when it was cranked, it was an always on pedal but I couldn't decide where to keep it. Solved hat problem by getting a Super Duper 2n1 clone which is just two SHO's stacked together with a master volume.

It's a pretty brutal procedure.
I may also have to sell pretty much all my gear.
So, look forward to some BST spam from me soon.

Fucking lousy. I'm sorry to hear it Popemeister. I'll keep your eyeball(s?) in my thoughts.

blakestree wrote:Anyone try the GilaMondo? That's the phaser I'm interested in.

I'm not much of a phaser person so this'll be a shitty review but I have one and I think it's great. It can get so deep and slow and the 'bonus' knob is really cool. Bam, that's all I can even say lest I meander into bullshitting.

t-rey wrote:So if the Orbiter can do that, I'm pretty sold.

I have to imagine the Gila Mondo could do that.

I will now show you my new guitar. I have been searching for the right one for about three years now and this is it. The frets are practically untouched. I pulled out the SD Blackouts which sounded so crappy you wouldn't even believe it and put in the only pickups I had laying around. Fortunately those were a Wolfetone Marshallhead II (which I got in some trade way back and then forgot about but then tried to sell on CL but forgot about again after it didn't sell in ten tries) for the neck and a '79 (allegedly) Super Distortion (from the Fuzz Face guitar) for the bridge. It is now the best guitar I have. I have never owned a more sustainy, resonant axe. It just feels so zippy and tight. Plus the dumbness of look is sure to bother the Musical Intelligentsia around here, so extra bonus!

Fuck that was impressive.
(And that guitar is nice too.)

Bands with vans, how do you do your insurance? I'll be picking up a van next week and have no clue about how to go about insuring the van (and our gear) and anything else I maybe missing out on.

I pay for the insurance on my band van through geico. Only up charge I add is roadside assistance. It's an old '88 gmc so it's pretty cheap to insure. I think something like $16 a month or so. I like to take care of all the van stuff so in the end it belongs to me and no one try's saying they paid for some or want something for it, or whatever. It only cost me $1,000 so I just didn't accept any band mates help when purchasing it. The only time I ask them to pitch in is for gas and repairs, since it's only used for the band.

Midwest doombros: Dark Horse's seasonal Smoked Stout is now in stores. Get it while the getting's good.

Still waiting on new guitar. Should be here Monday. No estimated shipping date on the CT5 yet; I'm guessing around Feb 1.

I'm on geico too, and it's not that bad. I seem to have become a car hoarder so I have 4 cars on the insurance right now. I just realized that since the van is a 76, and only gets used for weekend shows really, i should be able to put it under the Classic car insurance. Taking two cars off geico and putting them on that, should save a bit.

Stoked to see that cam SG on stage. ESP's are so nice.
