Hawk controls??? What the fuck am I doing???

Post by KaosCill8r »

Had the Hawk fuzz for a couple of months now. Love it to bits. Great sounds to be discovered with tweaking. But I still don't know what the switches do. The knob is self explanatory. Anyone out there know what the switches control.
1-2 ?

- + ?

. ... ..?
Great fun to just play around with but it would be handy to know what's happening when I flick a particular switch.

Awesome fuzz pedal though. If anyone hasn't got one and finds one for sale (it's discontinued), I say grab it with both hands and hang onto it. :thumb: It makes some really cool dirty sounds that I haven't heard in another fuzz. Dirtier than 1980s European porn. :erm:

HAHAHAHAHA glad you're still enjoying it dude. I'd be missing it a little if I hadn't gotten a 4545.

Btw I pretty much always kept the switches a certain way and never really changed them. Also never figured out exactly what they do either...

Hey Joe, how you doing? Yeah dude still loving it. I can't leave a fuzz on just one setting. I'm a tweaker and stacker. We should start a union. The tweakers and stackers local 666. The Hawk is the tits. On guitar or bass, there is usually a decent fuzzy sound to be found. When I get some new recording gear I'm going to give it a try on vocals. The 4545 is discontinued too isn't it? What type of sound can you get out of them? They seem to be loved around here. And hard to get. No one wants to let them go.

There's usually one on reverb for around $125. I'm always so tempted to snag it.

I waited around a year and a half before I could snag one, but I was looking for one with a clean blend. They come up here every once in a while. It has two oscillators fucking up the sound of a pretty gnarly fuzz. But it's got a few switches to pick lows or highs to be oscillated. It's wild and splatty, but if you play hard it's deep and doomy.

I'd say the Hawk can get a little of the sound, but it doesn't have that always on oscillation on top. It's also louder than all fuck. Depending on your style the gate switch can come in handy. I'd prolly love the sound of a 4545>Hawk>Pickle Pie B come to think of it. Except I like a blend to be able to mix it all together in the end. But as soon as I get my Fuck fixed it'll most likely be Fuck>4545>Custom Orbit Fuzz>Pickle Pie B. Right now with just the three others I can kill all small things just turning my amp on.

Oops, I meant there's a Hawk, not a 4545.

Snag it then I say. They are well worth the price of admission. According to Brian the Hawk wasn't a big seller, which I think is a crime for such an awesome tweakable inexpensive fuzz to go un noticed when there is all those shit fuzzes out there getting sold for much more. :idk: Would love to add more SS/BS to my board but with the Aussie dollar the way it is I don't think I'll be able to until it improves. A Fuck OD is about $280.00 AUD + shipping here.

the top two hawk switches just change the overall compression, bias, gain and to some degree the decay of the notes.
the bottom switch is a simple passive EQ which rolls off high end but also changes the texture of the fuzz.

Thanks Brian. I thought the bottom switch was an EQ of some sort but I noticed there was a certain change in grit so it confused me. Real crackly in the centre position, love that sound. Gritty like going to the beach and ending up with sand in the crack of your arse, but I don't love that feeling.

Nah, that feeling sure blows, it itches and scratches and makes you think something like "Oh no, maybe I got the worms!".
I don't think Hawks have that though, would they?
