anyway blah blah blah... was checking through rigs of doom and came across Mills Amps and custom shits
http://millscustomamps.com/product/atlas-classic/

just going through... so I'm seeing 1200 for 200watt tube heads either with 6 6L6 or 4 Kt88.

Seems very damn reasonable to me. I dig the look, ain't found anything on em just yet but I'm digging thus far on looks and the very nice price.

300 watt tube head with 8 6L6s weighs in at 35 pounds though? The transformers are probably where that price cut is coming from.

$1200 seems very cheap for a 200W, a one off 200W costs me $1500 in parts.

oooh didn't notice that weight... that has to be either incorrect or like you said some weak ass bullshit transformers.

from the site it kinda looks like he buys a bunch in bulk cause it looks like he has 10 in stock of just about every amp offered? I figured if anyone would know... you would know Nic.

just happened to come across it.

Those are torodial xformers, different geometry then the average stand up set.

More ideal xformers actually in terms of specs.

Bulk can reduce your costs but $1200 retail means parts are close to like 600-800 in cost. That seems very low to me.

Okay wasn't sure I'm used to the good ol heavy iron.

Yea that's what I'm pretty surprised at still. I still haven't came across a sound sample except for the one on the website of one on clean.

Find a job you will like better. You spend about a third of your adult life working. Why spend that time doing something you don't like? :idk:

Those amps are weird. Curious as to how they sound. I dig the aesthetic, but agree on the construction of the shells being on the shoddy side. Easy fix if they continue on and survive.

Easier said than done, and you have to survive the starving artist period if you really want to do music. I'd drop school in a second if Flux could become profitable.

I think a better approach is to find a job you don't completely hate, that allows you to have time to spend on the things you really want to do. I'm jealous of the craftspeople of the world who truly have passion for their work. Research scientists, master chef's, architects etc. Kind of a bummer when you realize all of your passions are money pits

Part of being a starving artist means you're willing to do whatever it takes to make your art, including work at a shitty job or whatever.
good deals are here.

I think this is some sound advice. Just find something that won't make you miserable. Find something that puts you in the company of great people. I know that when I started my job nearly 8 years ago I certainly didn't expect to do any of the things that I ended up doing there. Now that I'm doing it and have committed more to it I feel great about everything I'm doing there and my progress. It's certainly had its moments where I was so frustrated that I wanted to leave but that a lot has changed after a few regime changes.

My job is grueling, often 14-16 hour days. But it allows our band to operate at a certain level, and I've made my peace with it.

In related news, it's looking likely that we'll be out again this fall with a sort of big band. My body is ready.

I can't stand it. I like Converge, but that whole thing feels SO suburban bro to me. Like almost a jock-type thing. Terrible.
