I've been going mad on the OP-1 all day. Truly amazing. Not as powerful as a DAW, with a few choice VST's, running on a laptop, but oh so much more fun. And, I like kit with limitations. I don't know why I held off getting one of these so long.

I have wanted an OP-1 for years now. Unfortunately, that would mean selling loads and loads of gear to finance its purchase. Not being wealthy is such a hassle sometimes!

You don't have to be wealthy, just ILF and PEDGE...

Hey guys, could I use a sampler as a drum machine, like a roland SP-404? I would like to be able to make some loops out of samples and drum sounds. I'm trying to get into some hardware, I've been getting bored with pedals lately haha.
I'm also lookin at a pocket piano from C&G, there was a granular sampler someone linked on here awhile back that seemed cool, go ahead and recommend me some fun gear to get me started, I've looked at the Korg Volcas and they seem kinda cool too.

yeah dude you can tap out beats and stuff on the SP404 but the sequencer isn't too intuitive so maybe an MPC-1000 or something would be more fun for something like that. i feel like the 404 is better for performing prepared loops than making up beats and stuff, and the pads are a little small for finger drumming.
the granular sampler you're thinking of is probably the bastl microgranny.
volcas are cool and awesome value but very limited in some regards so you might wanna think about what features you need especially regarding sequencing, like personally i mostly write things in odd time and the volca beats was such a pain in the ass to get sounding really syncopated. i felt like the keys was more useful but haven't spent much time with it.
interface-wise most elektron stuff is really fun to play too but not cheap.

Syncopation on the beats - dial the stutter effect to the 3:1 timing setting with one ir two retriggers. Aint the most controlable but its there

yeah that's a useful feature, i did use the stutter a lot. for me personally regardless 16 steps and no global tempo subdivision wasn't enough to get it to do what i wanted and the mono output made it feel a bit dull for recording, i had more fun recording passes of different drum sounds and arranging them in ableton than playing the sequencer so having the hardware ended up being kinda unnecessary. IMO panning is super super important when working with percussive sounds unless the plan is to run it with pedals into an amp or something.

For sure, I can definitely see the limitations being too cumbersome.
Its been 4 months since I first approched a duder about building me a drone synth, and I thought it was going to be ready weeks ago. Still dont have it after "it looks like it will be this weekend!"
I just wanna drone

OP-1 is changing my life, as we speak! I almost went for an Octatrack, but I'm glad I got the OP-1 instead. It does more of what I want to do.
ChetMagongalo, samplers make the best drum machines, unless you're going for straight EDM. SP-404SX is a good choice. MPC1000/2500 is better, if you can find one at a good price. Plus, MPC's probably have the best sequencers in the game.

Re: Let's see your KEYS/SYNTHS!
I have a few questions on synths. I dont want to clutter up this topic (I think it would take up at least a quarter of a page) so I'll just put a link to the topic where I've asked them all.
