Saxophone makes a really good oscillator with all the overtones and whatnot. Thanks for listening! If anyone wants to check it out, the video is available here: https://youtu.be/xbovoKK8uL0?t=7454 There were some really awesome performances last night!

Interesting comment on the burnout... lots of people last night including myself ended up doing somewhat or fully improvised sets because the focus to just get something prepared was too much. I ended up leaning on guitar and plucking stuff out on a keyboard because it was easier than programming it how I normally would. I do think there's something to be said for improvising, though. Sometimes the results can be really cool and something you never would have gotten otherwise!

yeah. lol. JUST finally sat down and had fun working on something i enjoyed. the burnout is reaaaaaalllll.

this is going the only way i know to make stuttery breakbeat stuff, and i keep feeling like i'm repeating the same methods, so trying out a few of Ned Rush's tutorials tonight.

but this was fun -

its funny how all Tom Erbe software has that tin metallic sound. kinda like a ring mod. you hear it all over the erbe verb. I don't know if I could do everything on a make noise module but if you feel like making a second video I may be convinced. it does sound versatile but it gets stuck in the same areas I expect.

sooooo.... question. want to send MIDI clock and run to a smaller modular (i think 6u?) box from Live. right now sending from Live to Squarpamid works a charm, i have outs from there i can run a MIDI cable to a modular rack.

i have an ALM mmMIDI and Pam's with the Pexp2 expander. i think i'd like to use Pam's to send clock to everything modular, do i need the mmMIDI or Pexp2? or can i go straight into Pam's?

murrrrrrr?

lol. annnnnd a Question Extension -

planning to have for hardware loots a Pulsar-23, Cycles, Korg Minilogue XD, maybe a Sirin at some point. then a 6u modular with 4 or 5 mono outs max at a time.

options are to get a big external mixer again like the Presonus AR16, or keep the 16 ins i have with the Focusrite pair i use now and get a couple cheap MIDI fader boxes (like the NanoKorg or its Pyle/WolrdE knockoff). MIDI faders would be less space, hardware mixer is less setup and headache.

thoughts? advice? chicken touchings?

iiiiii LOVE it. it's perfect. in every way. it's a super intuitive, DEEP programmy tool that makes Live and it's instruments feel like using a hardware box.

think i'm just going to grab a cheap MIDI fader strip, try that first.

also, ALM got back to me, recommended MIDI from Live into mmMIDI, out the Run and x24 into Pam's. SETUPS. WOOT.

also - i have wayyyyyy too much stuff. and i love modular, but i'm going to build a 6u i planned out for drums and noise stuff, then list pretty much everything else i have. silly to have boxes of THINGS just.... languishing.

If I needed MIDI faders I would nab a Faderfox thing. They're small and look v. cool. I have heard also they are quite sturdy.

jia. those are neat. and VERBOSE. but way more than i want.

i just wanted to use the rackmount Focusrite inputs i have with a bank of faders to control the volume/panning. have a NanoKontrol2 on the way, will grab another if i like it.

Push lets me do mixing too, but this way i can have an Always Setup bank of volume control. if it worrrrrrrks, it will save me about five hundy vs grabbing a good USB interface mixer.

Well, I resisted the urge to splurge again on a bunch of modules. But only by buying something else instead.

At the moment I'm really vibing with XAOC Devices and I kinda want a full row of their stuff (halfway there). The Odessa+Hel is a pretty penny and I just missed the 4th of July sales, and I kinda want to understand that whole Drezno/Lipsk/Jeno thing, but that's an even bigger investment for something that I could end up never using.

I'm glad I distracted myself by getting a Subharmonicon.

Xaoc shit rules. So does SubH. I like both a lot. That’s all.

The subharm looks very fun indeed. I... have recently splurged on a 7u case :animal:

If I ever get back into modular, my rack will likely be very Xaoc heavy. I have really enjoyed every one of their modules that I've owned.

I also concur that the Subharmonicon is pretty sweet

Only a few hours with the Subharmonicon and I’m really impressed. There’s a lot of potential under the hood and I don’t even understand it all yet. I really wish I brought my other Moog semis + Matriarch here, but I have no room for anything lol.

Still quite intrigued by XAOC’ing my system up, though. This module just makes me want to splurge more.

Pretty ignorant question but do any of you guys modular without sequencers and stuff? I have been wanted to get into modular for like a decade but haven't. Staring to look into stuff more seriously now and I feel most of resources these days are for guys into IDM and stuff who want lots of melodies and complex rhythms instead of fucked up pre-synthesis space noises
imagine finding out your son is your daughter & she's into noise music
