Guitar Trends that need to start
i just woke up from a bout of sleep paralasis and night terrors
and the bed dont look all that comfy at the moment
i was tryin to wake up,scared of somethin around the corner
was gonna grab my guitar off the wall
and smash its godforesken face to smithereens
in the half dream the tremelo looked downright badass
it sat on 4 springs,with like a floating/captive axle
and the arm itself had a bend away from the body
axle didnt go up and down or rock
there was some sort of gear mechanism, so the fucker rolled
any way
there seems to be a lack of innovation in the tremelo/vibrato/whammy bar/whatever area
i know weird ones usually suck balls
but a bigsby really aint that special anymore

A showroom-only guitar that causes serious bodily harm should anyone begin to play Stairway, Smoke on the Water, Hells Bells, etc.

Re: Guitar Trends that need to start
Pickups that consist of two single coils right next to each other, connected to a triple detented blend pot so all the way clockwise is one, middle is both as humbucker, and counterclockwise is the other. Easy enough to do yourself, but still.

Ermm... how about guitars that come with a free gift for the new guitar owner's lady friend.
Seriously. Throw in a hair clip or a scented lotion or something that makes her say "isn't that cute" and I will be able to justify purchasing many, many more guitars.

More hexaphonic pickups and stereo outputs and guitars with built in crossover filters with multiple outputs.

Wooden knobs
Stop making relic and start making guitars that aren't CNCed / finished to a high polish, but instead hand smoothed and rub finishes that are naturally unique and imperfect
that said, more oil finishes
even better: natural finishes -- padouk, etc -- woods that don't even need an oil finish and improve with age
combinations of single coils and humbuckers on guitars
ALWAYS CAN USE BETTER SHIELDING
bolt-ons are cool, but sometimes I want a thinner neck joint on a strat or whatever, if that can be done? (maybe anchor the neck further into the body so that it's a bolt-on neck-through sort of deal?)
tuners that don't suck
tremolos that don't suck
matte finish hardware
guitars that come screen printed with artist's designs over a clear/tinted finish
more sounds
more baritone guitars that aren't METALZ / pointy
more offset shapes that aren't Jag/Jazz/master/stang/uars.
More hollowbodies that are nice and thin (think Trey Anastasio's guitar, but ugh, not for Phish-re-enacting please) -- that are reasonably priced / not only available custom order from luthiers
as much sustain as possible
organic & sustainable woods -- stop factory farming wood everywhere!
I dunno. That's a brain dump of some ideas if I was running a big company like Fender or Gibson, or even a smaller one like Eastwood.

Re: Guitar Trends that need to start
Less expensive aluminum guitars & basses
Basses with humbuckers that aren't soap bars or MM
More offset type guitars
Offset semi hollows
More variety of short scale basses
More weird switch combinations like Teisco did in the 60's

Re: Guitar Trends that need to start
now were talkin
is anyone listening out there
in corporate guitar hell
i think the cnc machine is good to keep costs down
but no one really falls in love with a guitar that looks mass produced
"tuners that dont suck"
i bought one of those coffin wall hangers
yeah im cheap
i was screwing it into studs with included3" screws
the heads broke off both of them
when the companys skimp
we will find out
my samicks tuners are the pits
its my only real complaint
but it dont make me want to spend 70 on new tuners
im gonna spend an extra hundo on my next guitar
and its not gonna be samick
theres so many of us out here
they could care less about repeat customers
+1 on offsets,teisco-y switches,trems
