New Pickle?
So my bandmate told me that the Way Huge Swollen Pickle is being reissued by Dunlop, and a little searching on teh interwebs proved him right. But then I realized... I've heard people talking about the Pickle before, but I have no idea if it lives up to the hype. Was the first one all that great? Does anyone know anything about the reissue? Is this something that folks are looking forward to? What's the word?
Just figured I'd open it up for discussionating...

Re: New Pickle?
The reissues have been out for a while now. Sounds like a decent muff but I never heard anything that made me say "must buy". They are priced fairly high considering they aren't really boutique anymore. Other muffs in the price range better imo (musket or the new hoof v2)

Re: New Pickle?
Interesting. Are they as hissy as the EHX muffs?
I need to check out the musket - I believe that CliffBass has mentioned his in the past...

Re: New Pickle?
Tried one out a few weeks ago and didn't love it. IMHO a bit tame and not that cheap (160 or so).
ILF pedals: DE Eye of God, Mellowtone Wolf Computer, Mellowtone Singing Tree LE, Fuzzhugger Arc Flash Oscillator, DSc Miniberator, Mysterious J boost/cut/tremolo pedal

Re: New Pickle?
Yeah, if it's really just a modded Big Muff circuit, that price seems a bit steep...
Ta heck with it - just get a Hyperion instead! It'll probably sound better, and it's cheaper!

Re: New Pickle?
The Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie is supposed to be the best clone out there.
He also makes a bass version the Pickle Pie B.
I do think his build quality is better than Dunlop's.

should be some sound clips up there.

Re: New Pickle?
wren & cuff dude deserves your $$$, that's for sure. the best customer service i've encountered. jeorge tripps was easy to deal with too, but that was when way huge operated out of a garage.

Re: New Pickle?
didn't tripps design the hendrix series of pedals and the new MXR offerings in addition to the new way huge reissues?
anywayzzz.
the pork loin and fat sandwich seem to be more interesting to me then the pickle....going by the specs.

Re: New Pickle?
By no means is it a bad pedal...its pretty tweakable and sounds thick and heavy. Just still not convinced on the price point. They carry them at GC and probably at any other big shops around you...you might like it, try one out.

Re: New Pickle?
The new Pickle is actually pretty cool. I grabbed one as soon as they came out.
It's a very tweakable muff.
The new version has 4 new control pots on it that the OG didn't have:
1. Mid-Scoop/Flat control
2. Compression control
3. Mid-Scoop intensity (internal trim pot)
4. Clipping Diode Switcher smooth/open control (internal trim pot)
With the compression and diode controls, you can take it from smooth to crunchy (much like the way you can dial the TP from smooth to crunchy.......not saying it sounds like a TP)
I know people wanna hate because it's manufactured by a big corp.....but, who cares. The proof is in the pudding.
I've seen the OGs go for $400-600. So, a buck fifty doesn't seem crazy to me, considering how much more versatile they are than a EHX BMP, for example.
Oh, and I like it better than the Pickle Pie, which I used to own.

good to know.... i'm a bit interested in trying them just to see what the bug is about. i don't think 160 is terribly expensive and if it sounds good then i don't care if a naked korean lizard put it together in the biggest factory in korea (as long as the lizard was properly compensated in context of the cost of living in his homeland...wheeeeew).

Dude - everyone knows that the naked Korean lizards give you a much smoother tone.
