tascam porta 07 and a compressor
I've been looking into buying a cheap ass compressor to use on acoustic tracks, but I'm wondering how I do that? do I just plug the mic into the compressor and then into the tascam? I don't know shit about recording

You would probably need a mic preamp. Does the Tascam porta 7 have an insert? Compressors work better as an insert effect. Your best bet would be to get a small mixer. It will have mic preamps and an insert for a compressor on the preamp channels.
