Mudflaps

Post by qersty »

An octaver with that old school analog sound. What are the options? All of them seem like super pricy these days (I do not know what a normal pedal is supposed to cost these days) even like the old boss thing has become """rare""". Fuck talkbass yo! So yeah I just want a PHAT sine that I can run in parallel to fuzzes and shit (muff blended with full wet oc-2 used to be my shit!) but all options here seems like they are over 200 euro

Idk what this one sounds like really, but I’d probably be buying it if I had the spare cash right now

I've always liked the MXR ones, I used a M88 for years and later switched to a M288, always have wanted to try their M287 Sub Octave Bass Fuzz...

It's not analog, but the OC-3 sounds great in OC-2 mode, plus you get a direct out which maybe helps your Fatty Fantasy IX. I dunno what they cost in Eurobucks but it's bound to be less than the OC-2

the oc-3 is funny because people say it is either really good or really bad. i think it is still cheap (again, i do not know what to expect a pedal to cost anymore). I find it kinda daunting that it has two inputs. What kinda compromise has been made to acommodate for that? weird solution

I do remember those older two knob mxrs where the shit on the swedish bass forum i frequented way back. Then somebody cloned the ampeg octaver. Are the two knobs on the new one useful? Its kinda like an eq right?

I don't know this for sure, but I think the guitar input rolls off some of the lowest frequencies so you don't blow up your guitar amp's speaker, whereas bass input is full frequency. I think that's a nice touch personally (though replacing it with a little dip switch in the back on the OC-5 is even better).

If I can stop being a lazy piece of shit (unlikely), I want to run my bass through the bass input, then take the octave out to its own track, then the dry out to a DI, then split the DI between an amp and straight to board, so I'd have amped bass, DI bass, and DI octave on separate tracks.

Sorta, they are two different voicings, one is muddyish the other grittyish… you can mix them about… it also has a mid boost button for a more oc2 sound :idk:

Cool! How useful is it having the two voicings?

I don’t know if it’s super useful other then it let you tweak the flavor, there isn’t a huge difference. One sounds like the old two knobber and two sounds more like a boss :idk: pretty much once you find the blend you like you don’t bother messing with anything other than the amount of dry you mix in like all other octavers

The only reason I use the newer one instead of the old one is I had changed basses from a active to a passive bass and the sound didn’t gel as with the new bass AND my moodgerfooger low pass filters as well :?:

the new one probably is more engineered to work with everything from like a corroded p-bass pup to some 18v bojangle.

You are more than likely right. Also in-between the two pedals I used a black label OC-2 for a year or two.. I got the other MXR later because Elwood had raved about the thing to me in the past... I don't actually know why I wanted to to stop using the boss.. I mean I hate to say this but most of the time I only used an octave to play one song and it was was for one phase in a chorus where I have the octave and a moogerfooger freqbox in a loop and would turn it on to get this huge BLURRRPP synth sound

I miss having a analog octave on my board.. but I need it to work on chords and drones with Icebear.. not huge slabs of funkyness like with N@meless :grumpy:

I feel you hard! Focusing more on playing has made me hate using like ANY effect that isnt mild fuzz or overdrive. Cant even use like a 200ms delay or chorus without thinking im "too messy"

I want an octaver cause I have realized how fun it is just to pump the fundamental and 3rd to make heavyness
