So Source Audio showed off a populated PCB for something along the development lifecycle of a Reflex v.2 on social media this week. They’ve said that this will happen as a treadle-less pedal (bring your own expression pedal) with an ability to deal with some absurdly hot CV from some modular synth gear that the OG couldn’t handle.
Naturally, this means that the scarcity pricing of the original is being kept by a handful of new listings, probably because they figure they can get the same function and cash if they wait.
It’s kind of like people flipping their Cooper FX stuff when Tom joined Chase Bliss for “no more Cooper FX” prices when a future Gen Loss product was already announced. Or flipping Bliss Factories when they knew there was a new colorway coming.
This makes economic sense but seems gross to me. Preying on the uninformed, of course, but it feel like it’s on the continuum to keeping instruments in vaults unplayed. Maybe I’m weird, probably dumb, but I’m holding onto my Reflex, Gen Loss, and Bliss Factory. Am I doing this wrong?

I often wonder if there is a steady supply of people on Reverb who don't know how to Google things, or if (more likely) flipper-hoarders just assume there are. The amount of times I've seen a new listing well above market price for a pedal that's *currently in stock* is crazy

I'm just gonna wait and see how much EAE Hypersleep will go for, now that John announced that the next batch will be the last one due to the scarcity of chips. I already saw a couple listings popping upwith inflated prices since yesterday.

Well, and he increased from $275 to $399 for this new version, too.Dowi wrote:I'm just gonna wait and see how much EAE Hypersleep will go for, now that John announced that the next batch will be the last one due to the scarcity of chips. Some of that is the scarcity of the chip, sure…But, i bet they saw what they go for used and figured they may as well make that, too.

Hoarding is the only ethical thing to do!
But tbh if you are flipping before a new version it should be discontinued. You get cash for the new version, some other lucky person gets to experience the older version at a good price.
Reverb is evil no matter how you look at it. If they spread misinformation about thing being unobtainable they just make a bigger hunk a change of their %. I could go on for ages about this but I have been called a conspiracy theorist before which I may have deserved idk.
Just remember to never flip! Build up the stockpile!
