Re: Seppuku FX
I had a Spacefuzz and I would only be interested in getting another one if there's a way to reduce the hiss. It's a very noisy unit, but with a great sound!

Re: Seppuku FX
Here are the guts of the Pitch Monster:

The sound is completely different from my DPM-2, though! The DPM has a very harsh sound, whereas the pitch monster has a much warmer and more musical sound. The oscillation frequency is also in a totally different range. The Pitch Monster has much slower oscillation which allows for other sounds. But it only offers the pure effect sound, no matter what you do. The analog fuzz circuit of the DPM blended with the effect makes the drastic noisy pitch effect a bit more subtle. The perfect mix of both worlds could be the other variant of the Pitch Monster with the three switches. But then it doesn't have the fourth knob of my DPM-2, which has an enormous impact on the effect behaviour ... sweet First World problems!

HT8950 is an older IC used in reverbs and digital delays. you won't find many new pedals with HT8950. I am wondering what was cut next to the TL072.

Those are the legs of the capacitor that you can see in the picture above. Don't ask me why Rhys didn't shorten the legs.

Re: Seppuku FX
Well, the Pitch Monster will kind of live on in my DPM-2. There is some overlap.

i really, REALLY wish i had been able to snag one of the chrome/black Mind Warps. i do have one with the white computer-screen lettering in white and though i know it makes no difference, the chrome ones just look SO COOL.

So ... did you swap the PT2399 in the meantime?Christophe wrote:Alright! Since I don't know s**t about all that stuff, is there a brand/a shop that you would favor, or a chip is a chip and I can buy any pt2399 right off any website?Jero wrote:Just swap them. Pt2399's have been notorious for coming in bad batches, and some being noisier than others, right off the bat. Always good to buy a few extra for builds, in case you install a fickle one.

Well I bought some chips, took my ML to the repair shop. The guy had a look at it, said he would have to to un-solder (?) most of the circuit because it was impossible to reach the pt2399 directly (which is true). So that meant it was going to be expensive, with no guarantee that the pt2399 was actually the culprit. In addition to that, the ML was doing fine when we plugged it in at the store.
Since the guy was not willing to give it a try, I just went home.
Yesterday I think the chip really kicked the bucket, my dry signal is going through, there's a bit of dirt there, and no delay, and knobs are not responding, except "data".
I know a friend's friend who's building clones. I might talk to him about it and see if he wants to give it a try.

Re: Seppuku FX
Or send it to me and I'll do it for free. I would love to do a demo of it and send it back to you then (and I'd also pay the shipping to you). You are located in France, right?
