Re: Overdrives
I own several so I'll list them
Owen Gremlin bass overdrive, pricey but great versatility my main od.
may just get the Bass Bomb Driver when I'm feeling rich.
http://www.owenelectronics.co.uk/9939.html
Subdecay Stupid Box, nice mild light od ok with bas but does loose a bit of the low end.
http://www.subdecay.com/sb.htm
Jacques Tube Blower, most versatile of the TS-808/TS-9 clones out there. has seperate bass and treble controls, and the drive range is extended way past that of a stock TS.
Great with bass.

Taxi Driver, light mild overdrive. a bit bright by itself, really needs a blend to work with bass.
Old Blue Tube, I put in an nos 12AU7 and it pretty much stays on all the time any more
use it more as a boost than od though.
I would like to check out a couple by MI Audio, the Blue Boy deluxe and Tube Zone, because his fuzzez work great with bass, pump out tons of low end.

I'd also like to check out Dave Hall's pedals, but I'd have to order one, and of course I like the clips of the most expensive one.

I tried a Fulltone and to me it was just ok, But I also don't like the Sansamp

Re: Overdrives
I just received a Karaoke Party.... like 25 minutes ago, its pretty sexy. It's rather clear, heavy lows and sparkley highs.
Very punk, and exactly what I was expecting.
It's a bit more pretty sounding than my Singing Tree. The Tree is a bit more raunchy. By the way I should have a demo of the singing tree up shortly.

What he said!
Love the demo.
How did I forget the KP? Especially when I use it all the time (well not really all the time but you know what I mean). Even praised it here and on the bass forums.

Re: Overdrives
Thanks.
I'd like to get an Electric Brown and compare the two devi overdrives. The KP is top notch!

Re: Overdrives
I'm with Keith, i give my Jacques Tube BLower a lot of use, and that includes when I'm playing "bass" (Because its really my guitar thru the octave down on a H.O.G). The eq works wonders and it responds really wel to volume and picking dynamics. I like setting it rather bassy and running an HBE Treble booster in front of it, great sounds.
In general I like to run my Devi's dry,(into a clean amp, no comp, no reverb) but the Tube Blower gives them a totally different bottom end but lets the fizzy fuzziness, errr fuzz through! It's a great pedal, ugly as fuck, yes, but very cheap (at least here in Europe)

Re: Overdrives
i DIYed all my OD pedals. the two that i turn two the most now are the Red Llama which i built from the tonepad board using all 1% metal film resistors and WIMA for the film caps which is quite fat sounding in the low end but not quite high gain and my current favorite, the ROG may queen which i built from the general guitar gadgets board again using metal film resistors and WIMA caps. the may queen is quite high gain and is frequency wise perfect for playing in a band. i can't say enough good things about this pedal.

Re: Overdrives
I dont like the fulltone bassdrive that much, too midrangey.
Right now I've got a Barber LTD SR. It's perfect for everything I need it to do. Really clear and well balanced tone with just enough crunch.
I've also used:
Ehx englsh muffn- not dynamic enough, EQ controls werent strong enough, low gain sounds sucked IMO
Sans amp BDDI - too much like the background music to a spike tv commercial
Dark boost - too deep for my upper midrangey/trebly bass tone (although good with fuzz)
Year of the rat - Solid pedal all around, more unconventional. sweet tonez! lots of low mids to hit you in the chest
Your results might be different.

Re: Overdrives
I've never thought much of tubescreamers, but the other day someone was showing me their turbo tubescreamer, and I thought it was pretty sweet, a lot more versatile than the other as far as gain options.

me either....i used to have one of those square button 808's. the best thing about that pedal was that when i sold it for 450 bux.

i just took all of my overdrives to rehearsal and the Fetto was ruling supreme with the Rumble mod pulling second. evrything was sounding different due to me using blackheart amps instead of my demeter. don't know if was digging it too much either. may be time to rethink that.
this is off topic a bit but....i was actually asked to turn down my fukking 5 watt amp. a mean ... what the fuk? it was new low for me to be told 5 watts is too loud. i sorta felt like fighting.

hmmmmm.. if they only knew......

My 5 watt is pretty loud... i take it we're talking tube here. I remember driving to my drummers house and he was playing guitar in his room through a vlave junior stack. I could hear exactly what he was playing outside and it wasn't even cranked.
